FUN FROM AROUND THE INTERNET

-This is a video about Wagner head coach Mike Deane that is so unbelievable that you have to see it to believe it. He formally coached Marquette in the 1990s and had a great deal of success, but was let go. I can only assume that his over the top antics had something to do with it.

After seeing him in action at Marquette, I can think of no better way for him to address this issue.

RECAPPING LAST NIGHT’S ACTION

-The only game of the night featuring two top 25 teans turned out to be a dud. Xavier absolutely blew out a shorthanded Dayton team 69-43. The game was never close. Xavier jumped out to an early 15-4 lead and never looked back. Dayton is much better when they’re at full strength, but they need to play better than that without Chris Wright and Charles Little. Otherwise they run the risk of falling out of the picture entirely if they lose too many games over the next four weeks without them. As bad as they looked last night that may be a possibility.

-UCLA got a big 76-70 win at Oregon. That may not sound like too big a deal, but when you take into account how difficult it is to win on Oregon’s home floor and the fact that the fans were especially jacked last night, it’s more impressive than it looks on the surface. The Ducks are in a slump, and desperately need to beat USC on Saturday.

-USC had no problems with Oregon State, but freshman sensation O.J. Mayo may be in a little trouble with the NCAA. He excepted tickets to the Lakers vs Nuggets game as a gift from Carmello Anthony, and it’s been reported as a possible rules infraction. The NCAA and USC are both looking into it, and as far as I know neither side has commented. I would hope that this would not result in a season long suspension, but with the NCAA, one never knows. They’ll kill a program for giving out pizza to recruits, but not care so much about some other stuff.

-Both Washington State and Arizona State fell. Wazzu had a chance to remain in first place, but was actually beaten rather handily by Arizona. They fell behind, and given what their style of play is it’s hard for them to come back. Arizona State didn’t look all that impressive against Washington despite the fact that they were at home. Washington still has quite a bit of ground to make up, but they did wrap up a rather impressive win last night. Arizona State’s RPI is rather poor due to the number of bad teams they played out of conference. They must do well in the Pac Ten standings if they want the selection committee to give them a serious look. Losing last night at home didn’t help their cause much.
